Daniel González
(b. 1963, Argentina)
González work results from researches into celebration rites and it takes the form of public projects, sequined banner-painting, and wearable one-off pieces which are shown in high-impact performances. González creates irrational, sexy, and energetic worlds, areas of freedom in which existing conventions collapse.
His work has been shown in Viafarini, Milan, the Neuer Kunstverein, Aachen and the second Prague Biennale. In 2008 Daniel González realized a workshop performance for Manifesta 7 for which he created portrait-clothess by transforming the clothes of the visitors after interviewing them for a minute.
In 2010 he took part in the Witte de With festival, Rotterdam, where he presented his first Pop-up Building: he covered a historical church in cut-out cardboard like a gigantic pop- up book.
In 2011 he participated to the biennale of the Museo del Barrio in New York for which he created Pop-up Museo Disco Club, a sculpture-installation that transformed the museum's 5th Avenue facade and its lobby into a block party lasting six months.
Since 2007 Daniel González has collaborated with Anna Galtarossa on large-scale public projects. The first, Chili Moon Town Tour, a floating utopian city, inaugurated the Bosque de Chapultepec in Mexico City in 2007. The second, Homeless Rocket with Chandeliers, created in Lambrate, Milan, was an installation centred on a crane in use on a building site and contaminated by objects and materials referring to street culture and to the freedom it transmits. The artist exhibited at Zabludowicz Collection, London, the Musée d'Art Contemporain, Bordeaux, Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich.
In 2013 the artist presents the public installation Romeo’s Balcony in collaboration with ArtVerona art fair, Musei Civici and Teatro Stabile di Verona and the wall installation Happiness Before Civilization at the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich in occasion of the PIN. Auction Party.
In 2014 the artist has been invited to the design fair Ventura Lambrate during the Milan Design Week with the projects Criminal Aesthetic Fashion Soundsystem and Daniel González D.G. Clothes Project. In the same year, Noah Khoshbin, curator of Robert Wilson Watermill Center (Long Island, NY, USA) invites Daniel González to the Luminaria Festival in San Antonio, TX, USA, with the performance Bohemian Texas Street Home Fashion Show.
In 2015 the D.G. Clothes Project presents the performance Aaaaaaahhh Anthology of a Liar, designed for Marsèll showroom in the exhibition space Marsèlleria, Milan, followed by Cheaper Fast Love, performance for the design fair Ventura Lambrate in Milian. In Rome the artist realized the performance of D.G. Clothes Project, Portrait Fashion Factory, hosted in the Monumental Space Santo Spirito in Sassia, for the art programme Spirito Due, curated by Valentina Ciarallo on May 14th, immediately followed by the solo show Super Reality at Valentina Bonomo Gallery from May 19th to September 18th, 2015
