Geoff Uglow
British artist Geoff Uglow expresses extraordinary devotion to the enigma that is painting and is unashamedly driven by the remedy of beauty in nature and love. Born in 1978 in Cornwall he studied at Falmouth and Glasgow Schools of Art. He became a Rome Scholar in 2002 by which he lived and worked in the illustrious British School at Rome for two years. He remained in Italy for a further two years before returning to his permanent studio on the dramatic coast of the south west peninsula of Cornwall. He currently works between the UK and Italy. From the fast-flowing river of a life lived, he catches fleeting moments of perceived beauty and fastens them upon enduring emblems from the natural world. He deftly stirs together impressions of light, air, colour and emotion that beckon and implore him, so that in his wake, he leaves behind a chronicle of recognisably unrepeatable, harmonious, painted rhythms, freshly cast upon a still surface. They quickly set firm; enduring phrases recollecting that beauty once beheld. Each painting is a message with promise. A melody one can clasp with the eye. Something that can be kept.
